Old Business:
-Treasurer’s Report: $1,506.98
-Secretary’s Report and Discussion:
*The Christmas living history in Abbeville. It is scheduled for the weekend of December 3rd. It seems that the Butlers will day-trip this event. The Butler Guards were asked to partake in a tour of scenes portraying the war during the day. It appears there will be about 10 member from the BG go.
*This year’s Butler Guards’ Christmas party will be at the Vaughn’s house in Fountain Inn on December 15th. A sheet was sent around to allow the estimation of the number of members we’ll have to attend.
*There was recently a Fairview Camp SCV meeting. Some of the Butlers attended this event to discuss Fairview 2007 and a possible 2-day battle. It appears the Butler Guards will have to discuss this with the Fairview Church. It was also mentioned it possibly being best for the Butler Guards to take over the planning for the annual event and allowing the SCV camp to just be in charge of the yearly memorial service on Sunday afternoon. Tom Fowler and John Vaughn will discuss next year’s event with the church
*Discussion was made over Blue Springs, the event the Butler Guards attended in mid-October. Everyone agreed it was a great event with GREAT food. Mike Looper brought up that Julia Barnes had recently sent a thank you letter to the church that sponsored the Sunday meal, Brown Springs Baptist Church. After discussion of the event, Julia Barnes made a motion that the Butler Guards donate $50 to the church as a thank you for the kind hospitality they demonstrated. The vote was unanimous in favor. The check was written, and Julia will prepare a card to go along with it.
New Business:
-Bob Kaemmerlan spoke on several books he has recently been reading that mean a lot personally to him. First, he discussed Mac Wycoff’s studies and his book on the 2nd SC regiment during the war and Mr. Wycoff’s presentations during this year’s Civil War Symposium. Then he spoke on the book “Shock Troops of the Confederacy.” He discussed the history of sharpshooters in the ANV and the scarce Wentworth rifles in the army. “The Struck Eagle,” a biography of Brigadier General Micah Jenkins and the Palmetto Sharpshooters was another topic Bob taught the guards on.
-This year’s Battle of Secessionville reenactment is the weekend of November 10-13th. Between 15 and 20 members of the Butler Guards are preregistering to go. Some of the Butlers want to go to Queen Anne’s Revenge to eat Saturday night. The majority of the Butlers would rather camp close to the main part of the site.
-Mike Looper brought up the unit purchasing caps from J & S Gun Depot. Mike had already asked them to reserve their last 8 cans for the Butlers. It was decided that the Butler Guards would purchase the 8 cans for $42.32.
-We would like to welcome our new recruits to the Butler Guards: Taylor East, Clark Smith, and Mariah Smith. We are looking forward to working with each of them in the future.
-The next SCV Fairview Camp meeting will be on November 20th at 7:00 pm at Fairview Church’s social building. The Butlers are planning on attending this crucial meeting.
-It was decided that next year’s Palmetto Middle School reenactor program would be on Wednesday, January 17, 2007. The students have always been attentive and it is sure to be another great recruiting possibility. About 4 of the Butlers are already planning on attending.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
