Old Business:

- Secretary/Treasurer Report

            -Current Balance: $1,636.98

-The Butler Guards’ Christmas party this year is still set to be at the Vaughn house in Fountain Inn. The date has been set to Friday, December 15th.

New Business:

-The Cost of the powder the Butlers recently purchased is $11.20 per pound.  The price for members of the BG is $12 a pound.  No source for caps for the unit has been found. Cpl. Looper and others will continue looking for a place to buy caps.

-Quartermaster Brett Nix and Secretary/Treasurer Chase Heatherly are to set in place a method of keeping track of who in the unit has received powder, how much they’ve received, and what has been paid for.  This is still under process.

-President Chuck Yeager has a new email address. It is now charlesdyeager@bellsouth.net.  Sec/Treas Chase Heatherly also has a new email: cheatherly@charter.net.

-We would like to welcome a new, young member to our unit: Jimmy Prior.  We’re looking forward to working with you.

-Mary Lin Ashley addressed the unit regarding the Ladies’ Auxilary. The LA decided they would like to purchase a shower tent.  Bob Kaemmerlen volunteered to handle the maintenance and keeping up with the shower tent. Brad Clardy volunteered to look into prices and report back to the unit in the future meetings.

-The Friends of Rivers’ Bridge is attempting to restore and progress the Rivers’ Bridge Battlefield in the Ehrhardt, SC area.  Julia Barnes brought up possibly making a donation to the organization.  Julia Barnes made the motion to send a $50 donation.  The motion was seconded by Bob Kaemmerlen.  Mike Barnes then called for discussion and brought up the condition of the Fort Lamar (Secessionville) battlefield and breastworks, saying we should help preserve battlefields whenever possible. The vote was unanimous in favor.

-February 17-18, 2007 is the newest date for the Battle of Columbia. This date is also the date for the Living History at the Relic Room.  However, questions arose about the date in response to the large number of events in February and March.  Cpl. Looper addressed the unit, discussing which of the two we should do.  It is possibly to do both the living history and the Battle of Columbia..  The Butlers will decide at a later time.

-How does a possible Battle of Williamston, SC in fall 2007 sound?  At the Springwater Festival in late August at the Mineral Springs Park in Williamston, Julia Barnes spoke to several members of the Williamston Historic Commission, as well as Mayor Clardy, and many seemed supportive. This would be a good opportunity for recruitment.  More information and discussion will come in future meetings.

-The Hendersonville reenactment is September 30th.  As of now, not many of the Butlers plan to attend, as the date comes close to Battalion Elections and the Battle of Blue Springs, TN.

-Lt. Mike Barnes made a motion that the latest version of the by-laws be voted on.  Bob Kaemmerlen seconded the motion, and John Vaughn third it.  The vote was unanimous in favor.  Mike Barnes also thought it a good idea for himself and President Chuck Yeager to sign a document stating the by-laws were voted upon and passed on September 7, 2006.

-The Palmetto Battalion Elections this year are on September 23, 2006. This will take place at the Sesquicentennial Park in Columbia, SC.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
