-Vice President Julia Barnes took lead of the meeting, due to President Yeager’s absence. Today is the Yeagers’ anniversary, and we would like to congratulate Mrs. Yeager for all the hard work, love, and undying devotion she has put forth to be able to withstand Chuck.
-Treasurer’s Report: Our current balance is $1,416.93. Also, Butler Guards and Palmetto Battalion dues are due this month.
-Making a donation to the restoration of the historic piano that the Greenville Confederate Museum has purchased was re-discussed. The motion carried to donate $100 to the project, which is currently being done.
-Sgt. Zach Morris was asked to speak on the event the previous weekend in Old Fort, NC. The Butlers were gray on Saturday, yet Federal on Sunday. The event held great sutlers, although the site was very modern. However, some Butlers would like to return in future years of the event.
-The date for the Battle of Allison’s Woods in Statesville, NC is August 24 – 26, 2007. Many Butlers would like to attend, and the Shealey’s (Ole South Frybread) also plan to attend. However, this date interferes with the Williamston Springwater Festival, scheduled for August 25. Discussion was made on which to do, and the majority of the Butlers would like to go to Allison’s Woods. A final headcount will be made at our July meeting.
-The decision to attend either Blue Springs of Brattonsville in October was rekindled. With Brattonsville event hosting the 20th Palmetto Battalion Anniversary, the Butlers unanimously voted to attend Brattonsville in York, SC, at least for this year.
-Thus far, 11 soldiers from the Butler Guards plan to attend the AP Hill March and Sharpsburg event in early September. Discussion was made on which way of transportation would be the most financially-agreeable and best for carrying gear. Zach Morris will look into the rates for a private van, and report back.
-the PSRS will be making care packages for the soldiers that will be traveling to Sharpsburg. VP Barnes urged all ladies to “adopt” a soldier, as she has done to Mike Barnes and Chase Heatherly.
-A recruit that has expressed an interest in joining the Butlers, Ian Campbell, has now attended three events and must be voted upon. After little discussion, Mike Barnes nominated that Ian Campbell be accepted as a full member to the Butler Guards. Mary Lin Ashley seconded the motion, and Ian Campbell was voted into the Butler Guards by acclamation. We would like to welcome Ian, as we are very thrilled he has joined our ranks.
-In December, there shall be a living history, complete with battle scenarios, at Ft. McAlister in Savannah, GA. This event is to be hosted by some of the best reenacting groups in the nation. Many of our soldiers would like to attend. However, this would interfere with the Butler Guards’ Christmas weekend at the Broxton Bridge Plantation homes. Discussion was made on which to attend. Tom Fowler made a motion that we cancel the Broxton Bridge trip and attend the living history. A clear vote and decision were never made, and the motion is to be tabled until a future meeting.
-The Butlers need to plan an after-action meeting regarding Fairview and the event’s pros and cons. Bob Kaemmerlan said we could go to his home and live-fire, have some fun, and then meet. The date will be decided by Bob and his wife and he shall report back in July.
-Discussion was made whether to attend Battle of Anderson 2008 or not. It appears not to be on the same weekend as the event in Cheraw, SC. A final decision shall be made at a later date.
-Many of the Butler Guards plan to attend the Symposium in Salisbury, NC in April 2008.
-If the Butlers are to cancel the trip to Broxton Bridge plantation, we shall have our Christmas party on Friday, November 30th. It shall take place at the Vaughns’ home in Fountain Inn.
-Meeting adjourned: 8:15 pm.
