*The February Butler Guards’ meeting was rescheduled from Feb. 1st to the 6th, due to a winter storm.  The Confederate museum was booked up during the week following the original date, thus the meeting location was changed to Perkin’s Family Restaurant in Greenville, SC.

Old Business:

-Treasurer’s report:   The Butler Guards‘ current account balance is $978.13.

-Secretary’s report and re-discussion:

1. The weekend of February 17th is the date for the Battle of Columbia, as well as the Relic Room living history.  The Butler Guards are definitely planning on attending the living history, and possibly the Battle of Columbia.  The Butlers will need to bring some dog tents as well as other camping items for display.

2. The Butler Guards’ had decided to buy two pairs of brogans.  However, Brian Sharp of the Palmetto Battalion mentioned at Rivers Bridge a site, www.shoesrus.net, where shoes, with an appearance much like brogans, can be purchased, for half the price of brogans.  The Butlers decided to purchase 4 large pairs for new recruits, two size 12, one size 13, and one size 14.

3. The Battle of Fairview Church 2007 was brought up in discussion.  Not much new news has been heard, other than Dr. Terry Rude will be the speaker at the memorial service.  The next Fairview SCV camp meeting will be Monday, Feb. 19th at the church’s fellowship hall.  All Butlers who can are urged to attend.  Also, flyers for the event are being prepared, and should be ready for dispersal before the Battle of Columbia.  In addition, Julia Barnes mentioned that some reenactors we met at Blue Springs 2006 are interested in attending Fairview, and the unit decided Julia would let them know the details after finding out their contact information.

4. The Manse Jolly movie trailer is going to be filmed Sunday, Feb. 18th.  It is planned to be 7 - 8 minutes long, and we’ll need Federals, ladies, children, EVERYONE.  Chase Heatherly, John Vaughn, Leo Lozano, Mary Lin Ashley, John Busbin, Julia Barnes, Mike Barnes, and Zach Morris are all planning to attend.  A great deal of the trailer is being filmed near the Barnes’ residence in Honea Path, SC.

5. On January 17th, several of the Butler Guards attended a “Civil War Day”  at Palmetto Middle School, in Williamston, SC.  It was a great day, and we have some possibly new recruits from it.  Chase Heatherly will contact these students, and report back.  Jo Evans thanked the Butlers for attending in her absence.

New Business:

-President Chuck Yeager tried to get a “head count” on how many are planning on attending Sharpsburg, 2007 with the Palmetto Battalion.  We need to get registered soon.  Those who are planning on attending need to let Chase Heatherly know soon, so he can let Lt. Bruce Blackmon know.  The due date for the pre-registration for the 14 mile march on Thurs-Fri is in July.  There is a fee for the march, $10, and the battle, $15.  This includes your rations on the march.  Some of the ladies in the unit would be interested in getting a motel room for the weekend.  We need to get the names of whose doing the march and/or battle for sure.

-The yearly event at Cheraw, SC is March 30-April 1.  Some of the Butler Guards are interested in going, as they have never been.  The Battle of Anderson was noted as being that same weekend, but the unit chose to select Cheraw.

-The event of Brattonsville is back!  This time it will be a full-blown reenactment: battle and all.  Chuck Yeager will get information on the dates and get back at the next meeting.

-The Battle of the Blue Ridge Mountains (Marion, NC) will be held again this year in June.  The Butler Guards need to pre-register through Chase Heatherly.  Some talk of whether to go blue or grey was debated.  We’ll find out the plans of the Palmetto Battalion at this event, but the Butler Guards chose to attend in Federal impression.

-Cpl. Mike Looper recently announced that he would be resigning from his position as first corporal to take the First Sergeant / Brevet Lieutenant position to lead the Hampton’s Legion infantry unit.  Thus, a new corporal needed to be elected.  Chuck Yeager asked for nominations from the floor, and Julia Barnes nominated Tyler Hewell as first corporal.  Zach Morris seconded the motion, and Tyler Hewell was elected first corporal by acclamation.  We would like to thank Mike Looper for all the hard work and dedication he has put into the Butler Guards, and we would like to welcome Tyler as corporal, as we are looking forward to fighting under him.  The decision was made to brevet additional corporals in the field as needed.

-The Battle of Broxton Bridge is March 2-4.  Sharon Vaughn asked who believed they were going.  Chuck reminded the Butlers that Chase Heatherly has to have sent an accurate pre-registration form into Jason Quick by February 15th.  John/Sharon Vaughn, Marty/Jo Evans, Becky/Zach Morris, Mike/Julia Barnes, Chase Heatherly, and Leo Lozano all said they were planning on going.  Chase will find out from the others and send in the pre-registration.  Note: reservations have been made for the two bed/breakfast farmhouses at the site.  IF YOU SIGNED UP FOR A ROOM AND DO NOT ATTEND, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ROOM SO CONTACT SHARON VAUGHN IMMEDIATELY.

Meeting Adjourned, 8:00 pm.  Let’s Eat!!!!!!
